2026 Idaho Catholic Appeal

Letter from the bishop:

Dear St. Paul’s Parish,
February 2026

Just as the moon has no light of its own but reflects the brilliance of the sun, so we, as disciples of Jesus Christ, are called to reflect His Light to the world. This Light shines most brightly when we share what we have received and allow others to see Christ alive in us.

I think back to a winter during my first year of graduate studies while in the seminary in Minnesota—where it is usually known as a gray and bitterly cold season. During that January day, feeling overwhelmed and all alone, I noticed an unattended planter in my dorm hallway. To my surprise, a few white geranium petals streaked with red were blooming at this very unexpected time of the year. I walked to a nearby chapel and kneeling in prayer, sensed the Lord whisper: “Can you hand over to Me all that troubles you?” I laid down my concerns and, one by one, He took them, and one by one, His light broke through my darkness, and I was set free.

Moments later, I went to my mailbox to find a single note card inside. On the front of the card was a photograph of the very same flowers I had just seen with the words: “Trust in God’s love for you today.” This simple message reminded me then, as it does now, that the Gifts our Lord gives us are always meant to bring us to a greater freedom—allowing us to also share this freedom, His light with others.

The Idaho Catholic Appeal invites us to come together as one family of faith—to Share His Peace and Be His Light. Your generosity to the Appeal supports more than twenty life-giving ministries across our diocese, helping to bring Christ’s light to people in every corner of Idaho. Through your gifts, seminarians are formed for the priesthood, deacons and lay leaders are trained for ministry, and Catholic education and campus ministries flourish. Your support sustains outreach to families, youth, and those in need—those who might otherwise live in darkness—so that all may experience the warmth of God’s love.

Thank you for being a sustaining donor who makes a continuous monthly gift to the Idaho Catholic Appeal. I encourage you to prayerfully consider how you can reflect the Light of Christ through your renewed participation and, if possible, increasing your gift to the 2026 Idaho Catholic Appeal as a sustaining contributor. Every gift—large or small—is a reflection of faith and a sharing of peace. When we unite our efforts, Christ shines more brilliantly across our diocese, transforming hearts and illuminating lives.

Thank you for your faithfulness and for your willingness to share the Light you have received. May God bless you with His peace and joy.

I remain gratefully yours in Christ,

Most Reverend Peter F. Christensen, D.D.
Bishop of the Diocese of Boise
